Dubbed in the press as “one of the most anticipated staples on the local scene”, the One Take Sessions have grown solidly since launching in 2006. Currently holding it’s home in Cleere’s Theatre on Parliament Street, Kilkenny, each night of the One Take Sessions takes a variety of four different acts across a broad spectrum of genres for a night of live music.
Admission to the One Take Sessions is free with each night of the ‘Sessions in 2010 recorded in HD video and audio for use by visiting acts.
Having run to 2009 on Thursday nights, the One Take Sessions 2010 series takes place on the final Friday of each month, commencing Friday March 26th.
While we’ve had very much an “acoustic” tone to the night over the past few years, we’re opening the door in 2010 for something a little louder, if the case presents itself. Performing on the night comes by way of advance bookings with slots allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. If you enjoy your night on the stage in Cleere’s then we’re happy to having you back, within the current season. Many acts use the ‘Sessions as a break from regular heavy gigging to something more down-tempo, as a means to get introduced to Kilkenny, or as a means to have a live performance recorded – however you choose to do it, don’t be afraid to ask.
For Artists
We don’t charge for the night (advocates of free music for the ‘Sessions) so we don’t pay for the night. What you will get though is a recording of your set as mixed by one of our engineers, a photo set of your gig (available through the KilkennyMusic.com gallery and we’ll use one, two, or all of your tracks in our podcasts including the Playlist Mix and Soundsystem.
Bookings
Bookings can be made by filling out the online booking form. Bookings have a tendency to fill rather quickly, keep an eye on the homepage ‘Sessions listings for available slots. Note that bookings must be delivered through the booking form available on site.
Requirements
We don’t ask a lot at the One Take Sessions but we do ask that you come a little bit prepared for the night, as such here’s a few requirements both mandatory and optional.
Mandatory Requirements
- When you’re booking, please include a mobile contact. If something goes wrong on the night, or you get delayed, or we get delayed, we’d like to be able to get in touch at short notice. If there are more than one of you in a group traveling, it might be worthwhile to submit two numbers.
- Bring an instrument! Some people are kind enough to let a fellow musician borrow a guitar or other instrument, but don’t turn up to the Sessions without either a) bringing an instrument with you or b) warning us in advance that you won’t have one and we’ll try and help out
- The special requirements on the booking form are there for a reason – anything special at all. Have you overlooked that your guitar doesn’t have a pickup and you might need it mic’d up instead? These are the small things we need to know in advance. Especially if there’s going to be a violin or cello involved.
- Bookings generally take place at least two weeks in advance. If you are going to cancel, we ask that you give us at least ONE WEEK’s notice, though the more notice you can give, the better. We’ve got no problem in rescheduling gigs but canceling on the day is bad form, even if it is a non-paying (moneywise) show. It doesn’t leave us much of a chance to notify people that you won’t be coming or where possible arrange replacement or alternative acts.
Optional Requirements
- Where you’re MySpace or website doesn’t have any press details or a biography on yourself or your band, please send us one. We like to get a few pieces together for the local press and if you’re not in, you can’t win – or so they say.
- If you’ve got samples of your music – please, direct us to them. If they’re on MySpace don’t forget to include the link, if they’re on MP3 or MP4, email them to us using one of the emails provided on the contact page. We also run the Sound System Podcast which can include your music prior to your One Take Sessions appearance and we profile the acts on both KilkennyMusic.com and OneTakeSessions.com so if you would like to give people a sneak preview of your music (with or without downloading it – your choice), include a few links!
Of course – if you’ve got any requirements, don’t hesitate to contact us. Or, if you want to drop down your own posters or press releases, get in touch as well.
Directions
Presented by KilkennyMusic.com, the One Take Sessions take place in ‘the biggest little venue in Ireland’, Cleere’s Theatre, on Parliament Street in Kilkenny.
Cleere’s (red fronted pub) is located directly opposite the Watergate Theatre at the bottom of Parliament Street. Limited parking is available across the road, just in front of the brewery though if there is something big on in the Watergate Theatre this parking usually fills quite quickly (spaces for about 12 cars). There is some parking available to the rear of the Watergate Theatre while a minute back up the road you’ll find Dunne’s Stores car park which provides free parking after 6pm
Of course, if you’re a performer who happens to be lost or you’re looking to attend the gig, we don’t want you wandering the streets aimlessly!
Feel free to give Ken a ring on 086 1048191 or email sessions@kilkennymusic.com at any time (though after 5pm on the day of a gig you’re best making that phone call!).
